Matrix

The Applied Learning Matrix is a new way of interpreting the range of skills and skill-sets teachers of applied learning should be aware of. The Applied Learning Matrix helps to develop different approaches to all applied learning settings including VCAL, VET, Special Needs, Reengagement and Community Education. Teachers of applied learning can now assess what areas a VALA resource or professional development opportunity will cover by accessing the Applied Learning Matrix. The matrix draws from 4 key skills areas relevant to applied learning practices. These correspond to the 4 feature colours of the VALA logo:

Indicates a program or resource aimed at establishing initial engagement or interest in learning.

Work & Vocational Skills

Indicates a program or resource aimed at establishing pathways and extensions into work, on-the-job training or further study aimed at securing a recognized qualification.

Personal and Social Skills

Personal & Social Skills

Indicates a program or resource aimed at encouraging personal effectiveness via community involvement, teamwork, personal awareness and positive self-esteem.

Indicates a program or resource aimed at developing both core literacy and numeracy skills and skills for living such as digital and financial literacy, transference of knowledge to the real world and consumer awareness.
