OHS rap video

The session from which it was created was titled 'Making a Noise About OH&S' and was inspired by the safety related rap resources featured on the SAFE-T1 website.

These 2 resources show VCAL students writing and performing a rap song aimed at raising awareness of OH&S issues.

The participants in 'Making a Noise About OH&S' were invited to develop their own version of these resources.

The result of their efforts is the featured video 'FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT (TO SAFETY)'

The production of this video required participants to complete the following group-based tasks:

  • Develop a set of 8 key words related to OH&S.
  • Write 8 lines of rhyming lyrics, each containing one of the chosen key words.
  • Produce eight banners/posters that illustrated each key word.
  • Investigate images from the internet that corresponded to the key words, then download these images in an appropriate format.
  • Perform the lyrics using a microphone and backing track sourced from the internet. (This was recorded using Garageband...but could also be done using Audacity for PC users)

2 participants were chosen to visually 'lip-sync' to the final song using the posters as backdrops. This was recorded onto participants' phone cameras/video.

All assets were imported into a computer.

The video, music, drawings and images were edited together into a video clip using imovie on a Mac. (This could also have been done using Windows MovieMaker on PC)

NOTE: During this session an ex-applied learning student was employed to 'drive' the software required. Participants worked in conjunction with this student to make decisions about the final edit of the film. Finally, titles and credits were included.

All participants were emailed a copy of the final video to be used as an OH&S resource within their own classrooms.
