As part of its advocacy responsibility to members, VALA responded to the discussion paper, Stronger futures for all young Victorians: Discussion paper on the youth transitions system (June 2010).
Background: The Victorian Government wants to ensure that all young people acquire the knowledge and skills to make a successful transition from compulsory schooling to independent adult working life.
Between the ages of 15 and 24 years, young people are likely to move through more than one education sector and begin participation in the workforce. The Government is looking for ways to ensure that the education sectors work effectively together and in partnership with employers and the community to support all young people through their chosen pathway to a rewarding career.
Equally, the Government recognizes that the knowledge and skills possessed by our young people on entry to the workforce are critical to our economic prosperity. It wishes to ensure a greater proportion of young people attain higher level qualifications, matched to employment opportunity.
VALA provided feedback (February 2009) to the National Curriculum Board on the National English Curriculum – Framing Paper. Although feedback was provided specifically on the English Curriculum paper, many of the comments made were applicable to the other curriculum areas. Read the VALA feedback (PDF 300KB).
VALA encourages members to keep up-to-date and provide input in the development of national curriculum through the National Curriculum Board’s website www.ncb.org.au. VALA is also keen to hear from you about applied learning and national curriculum.
