"Assessing Applied Learning" • Wednesday June 16th
Jenny Roache, VCAL Coordinator of Mooroolbark College, will start the discussion with some examples of her experiences and the challenges presented by assessment. 2010 is Jenny’s seventh year as VCAL Coordinator and teacher of PDS and WRS. She has been on the Eastern Region QA Panel for the past 4 years and is also involved in the regional reference group that plans PD activities for VCAL teachers and coordinators within the Outer Eastern Network. Jenny is very passionate about the role of VCAL in Victorian education and has some interesting experiences to share on the reporting and assessment aspects of applied learning within a senior secondary school.

Call for Papers – Are you a VET practitioner in school, TAFE or ACE provider? Then think about putting in to give a session at Engaged-Encouraged-Employable. Closing date for receipt of proposals has been extended to Friday 25th June, 2010.
The day will consider:
- How do we best address and assess the skills needs of young people to improve their viability as employees?
- How do we engage and encourage young people to create a positive employment future for themselves?
- What impact will funding contestability have on our delivery in terms of maintaining youth in study and progressing youth along the qualifications pathway?
- What strategies are available to help us (as educators) remain encouraged in the demanding role as facilitators in the applied learning process?

Statewide Multicultural Sports Forum
The Centre for Multicultural Youth is holding a special Statewide Multicultural Sport forum for Refugee Week. This event will interest anyone who’s trying to involve young refugee and newly-arrived migrants in sports and recreation programs but isn’t sure where to start.
The forum will be held at the Melbourne Bowls Club, Flagstaff Gardens, from 9:30am-12:30pm on Tuesday, 22 June. RSVP to info@cmy.net.au.

2010-11 Australian Government Budget
As part of the 2010-2011 Australian Government Budget, more than $660 million will be invested in training, apprenticeships and adult literacy and numeracy.
Some of the budget measures include: Critical Skills Investment Fund; Apprentice Kickstart Extension; Transparency in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) system; National VET Regulator and the Standards Council; Foundation.

Classroom 2 Community
Classroom to Community (C2C) is a 12-week professional development program for teachers and curriculum leaders of Year 9 students in government schools. The program builds the capacity of schools to improve student outcomes by taking learning beyond the classroom and engaging with the community. As part of the broader C2C program, students and their teachers spend a week in Melbourne’s CBD participating in Cityscape, an innovative education experience that uses the city to inspire learning.
