2010 VALA Conference - Learning on the Edge: Applied within, between, across - a great success
The VALA conference, held on Friday March 19th was a great success. Andrew Douch kicked off the day with a keynote titled Engaging at the Edge. In the keynote Andrew talked about his experiences with engaging new generation of learners using easy-to-use technologies.
There were over 30 workshops, approx 50 presenters,12 displays and over 200 participants. Thanks to all for making the day such an enjoyable and informative one.
VALA Resources website – a sneak preview
At the end of the conference, participants were given a ‘sneak preview’ of the soon to come VALA Resources webpage. Through the webpage, users will be able to search for applied learning (including VCAL) resources. Speaking at the conference, Michelle O’Brien, Vice-President of VALA, encouraged participants to keep a look out for the launch of the new VALA Resources Webpage.

VALA – representing you
NCVER (National Centre for Vocational Education Research) held a public forum on Friday, 5 February 2010 at Victoria University to give stakeholders the opportunity to discuss the future national VET research priorities. Linnet Hunter, VALA’s Education Officer represented VALA at the forum and had the opportunity to stress the need for research that focuses on the needs of young people in the VET system.

Signal Residency
Signal is Melbourne’s first arts studio dedicated to people aged 13 to 20 interested in a wide range of art forms. As part of its inaugural years program, Signal is running a pilot residency program, offering two week-long residencies in June 2010 to performance artists aged between 13 and 20 years.
